Rochester Midwest Eye Consultants, I am writing to formally address a recent experience that has caused me considerable concern and has led me to question the operational standards and patient-centric approach of your practice. My visit was intended to initiate a new patient relationship, not just for myself, but for my entire family, representing three potential new clients for your services. On a recent Friday afternoon, specifically around 4:56 PM, I arrived at your facility with the straightforward objective of scheduling an initial consultation for myself, alongside comprehensive eye examinations for two additional family members. This was a proactive effort on our part to establish long-term eye care with Midwest Eye Consultants. To my profound disappointment, and mere moments before your officially published closing time of 5:00 PM, I was abruptly informed by a staff member that the office was already closed. This interaction occurred as the employee was in the process of holding the door open for a departing patient, creating a distinct impression of a practice prematurely winding down for the day, rather than adhering to its stated hours. For absolute clarity regarding the timing, I possess a timestamped photograph taken at 4:57 PM, objectively confirming my presence and the proximity to your established closing time. While I can appreciate the desire of staff to conclude their workday efficiently, turning away prospective patients, particularly a group representing multiple new appointments, just minutes before advertised closing hours, conveys an exceptionally unwelcoming and unprofessional message. This incident regrettably casts significant doubt on your practice's commitment to accessibility and patient service, which are foundational expectations for any reputable healthcare provider. The primary impression left was one of inconvenience rather than care, especially disheartening given our genuine intent to entrust our family's vision health to your team. Furthermore, my subsequent attempts to reach your office by telephone to discuss this matter or to simply schedule an appointment proved equally frustrating. My call was routed through an automated system, eventually redirecting to an emergency care line for after-hours inquiries—a clear misdirection for a standard scheduling query. Compounding this, I endured a five-minute hold time before finally connecting with someone from a call center, only to reiterate my initial disappointment. This systemic issue raises serious concerns, not only for routine patient inquiries but also for individuals who might genuinely require urgent after-hours assistance, potentially struggling to navigate an inefficient system during a critical moment. These combined experiences—the in-person dismissal and the subsequent difficulties with your telephone system—have unfortunately led my family and me to seriously reconsider placing our eye care needs with Midwest Eye Consultants. They suggest a broader disconnect between published operational policies and actual patient interaction, undermining the trust essential in a healthcare relationship. I believe it is imperative for management to critically evaluate these instances, as they directly impact patient perception, satisfaction, and ultimately, the long-term success and reputation of your practice. I hope this detailed feedback will prompt a thorough review of your patient service protocols, staff training regarding closing procedures, and the efficiency of your communication channels, to ensure consistent and positive patient interactions moving forward.

I love Dr.Laycock and the service she provides. She is great and has taken my vision concerns seriously and provides great care. However, your front office girls that are greeting patients are rude, and very disrespectful. They’re not friendly at all and give the impression that you’re bothering them upon coming to the front desk. Your phone system has been down both times that I have had an urgent situation to where my husband has had to drive me to the office to see if I could get in for emergency care. Even then, the front office gal this past Saturday (5/9) want to ask the doctor or the care staff if they could see me. I had to ask her to kindly let Dr.Laycock know who it was and why. I have serious medical conditions concerning my eyes and I have to be seen immediately if certain symptoms present. The back staff, the contact & glasses staff, along with the check out staff have always been pleasant and very professional. However, the two office girls that have worked on 5/4 and 5/9 were very unprofessional.

Staff were friendly and knowledgeable. Great assortment/variety of frames. Actual time in office with the doc was quick and so was checkout time. My only issue with the visit was that I had to sit in the waiting room for 30 minutes before going back for my visit with the doctor. It was extremely warm in the office and I was sweating by the time the doctor came in to see me. I ended up being there for almost an hour. Most of that time was spent waiting and sweating.

Dr. Friedan’s the best. He’s a perfect example of kind, caring, and professional. Always up to date on latest developments in eye care. Other employees in the office are pretty excellent too. I’m glad Dr. Friedan comes to a little town like Rochester and gives such excellent care—I’ve been going to him for nearly ten years now. It’s not often we get such a great doctor in a small midwestern town.

The Rochester staff came thru for me at a time of everything being stalled as far as approval from the VA to pay for my lens. I had given up hope. The Dr made an extraordinary effort to reach the right people to get the approval for my lenses. With out his effort I dont believe I would be with the lens I have now. Plus his fitting of the lense was extraordinary . Thanks to all involved.
