My first experience with Ritz Eye Care Ocala, a few years ago, was very positive. The reception staff was friendly and welcoming, and the optometrist, Dr. Rawls, was very pleasant. Unfortunately, the original prescription was incorrect, so I had to return for a recheck. The prescription was corrected, and the replacement lenses worked well—I could see just fine. Fast-forward a few years, and it was time for a new pair of glasses. Based on my previous experience, I returned to Ritz Eye Care. Unfortunately, this visit was very different. From the moment I arrived, I noticed that the reception staff was no longer as welcoming or friendly as they had been during my first visit. More importantly, once I received my new prescription and glasses, I again found that the prescription was not correct. I returned for a recheck, expecting that the problem would be resolved as it had been the first time. Unfortunately, that was not the case. When I brought the glasses back, I found the optician to be extremely rude and unhelpful. I was told that another recheck would have to be paid for out of pocket, and that I would also have to pay for new lenses because my insurance allowance had already been used for the original pair of glasses. That was extremely frustrating. If the prescription provided by the office is incorrect, I don't believe the patient should be financially penalized for needing it corrected. There was also a significant issue with how my vision problem was addressed. I could see clearly out of my left eye, but my right eye was blurry. I was told that the solution was to change the lens in my left eye rather than the right. I questioned why the lens that was working properly would be changed while the lens causing the problem would remain unchanged. Unfortunately, my concern was justified—the change did not correct the problem. Based on my experience, I am left with the impression that getting the prescription right the first time may be a problem, and when it isn't right, the burden of correcting the issue falls on the patient. I am very disappointed because my first experience with Ritz Eye Care was so positive. Unfortunately, after this experience, I will not be returning and cannot recommend them.

Before Dr. Ritz would even look at my eyes, I had to sign a form acknowledging that I know the difference between my medical and vision insurance, and that they may charge both. I’ve been to plenty of optometrists. Never had to sign anything like that. I made an offhand comment that I don’t see perfect 20/20 even with correction, which I mentioned I knew from seeing a retinal specialist. Just small talk and to make him aware when we do our vision test. Dr. Ritz heard ‘opportunity’, and noted that once a patient mentions a symptom, he’s obligated to document it. Fair enough. But documentation and billing are two different decisions. He didn’t do anything additional in response to that note. No extra testing, no modified exam. He just wrote it down and billed my medical insurance for it. One comment, two insurance claims, nothing extra to show for it. To be fair, none of this is necessarily illegal. The consent form is technically transparent. Documenting what a patient says is standard practice. But there’s a difference between operating within the rules and making those rules work overtime for you. Verdict: Skip this one unless you enjoy paying extra for a doctor who treats your casual conversation as a billing strategy. Plenty of optometrists out there who won’t mine your small talk for revenue.
We were here from out of town. Had an eye medical problem. Took him right in. Very friendly staff. Would highly recommend.
Absolutely outstanding experience at Ritz Eyecare in Ocala, Florida! From the moment I walked in, I was greeted with warm, friendly service and genuine professionalism. The entire staff is knowledgeable, welcoming, and truly dedicated to providing top-tier care. The doctor who took care of me was incredibly thorough, taking the time to explain everything clearly and making sure I felt comfortable throughout the entire exam. You can tell she genuinely cares about her patients and their eye health. The office is clean, modern, and equipped with the latest technology, which made the whole process smooth and efficient. I bought my own frames but their selection of eyewear is also fantastic. If you're looking for a reliable, friendly, and professional eye care provider in Ocala, I highly recommend Ritz Eyecare. You won't be disappointed!
Dr. Ritz and his wonderful staff of professionals have taken care of my vision for many years now. He is proactive taking steps to avoid complications down the road as much as possible. After the visit, I am given all the time I need to choose a frame or keep the one I have. I highly recommend Ritz Eyecare in Ocala. Dean, on staff, has helped me find and fit glasses for years. He does a great job.
