I just started wearing reading glasses a couple of years ago & I’ve visited this clinic two years in a row. I don’t feel like the focus is on truly my eyes, my vision, or my eye health. I feel like the focus is on what additional money can be made when they offer additional tests but don’t really explain the purpose of those tests in a purposeful way and they act like there’s a lot of urgency to do this additional testing. So you spend the money on the testing, but don’t really get anything out of it. They have also branched out to offer additional cosmetic services in the commercial space nearby. So they encourage you to visit their aesthetician for some cosmetic procedures that may or may not be related to helping your vision, which is what I paid this clinic to do. Finally, I didn’t get any real advice about choosing the frame for my prescription lenses. They pretty much made it seem like it was just about my preference in the style of the frame. But there’s so much more to buying the right pair of glasses. Not all glasses have the same width between the lenses where it sits on your nose for example. Then I think the width of the glasses or the lenses matters too ? So recently when I was looking for new sunglasses, I used AI to give me advice for buying the right frame and now I understand that the numbers you see written on the inside arm of your glasses indicate the measurements for the bridge of the nose and the width of the glasses, etc. Clearly, my reading glasses that were sold to me at this clinic (intended for use with my prescription lenses, which I clearly wasn’t wearing yet.) are not the right width on the bridge and I would’ve expected to be educated by someone at the clinic - when spending hundreds of dollars on my glasses that have never quite fit well. Now I understand why - after learning on my own using AI. In Summary, I spent lots of money out of pocket at this clinic the first year, even after my insurance paid for what was covered and I don’t really feel like I got the value. So when I went back the second year, I had to tell them multiple times that I simply wanted the services that are covered by my insurance. I had to tell them multiple times that I wasn’t interested in anything additional and that if ever I was, I would be the one to ask for something additional. So this is just my advice to other patients. Use Google or Copilot or ChatGPT etc. to prepare for your visit and be prepared to ask for exactly what you want (including the right measurements for the width of the bridge of your new frames) and exactly what you prepared to pay for because you will make better decisions than when you’re feeling rushed and relying on the people you’re paying who are certainly in the business of making a profit.

Always fabulous! We’ve been coming here for over 10 years and have had a great visit every single time. The staff are caring and detailed, with great style sense while also respecting budget needs. The quality of the glasses has been fantastic.
Dr Ciampa has found the drops that are really working well for my dry eyes. I'm very happy with her care and her knowledge, office staff always friendly. All staff at this clinic have been great
The establishment is clean, and it's in a nice area of town. The staff is friendly and professional. The equipment is state-of-the-art. If you have dry eyes, complex vision needs or want amazing frames (sunglasses too) that are quality-made, this is the place to go :) I receive many compliments on my glasses.
While I'm not a patient here, I want to shout-out South Waterfront Eyecare for accepting the transgender/nonbinary/LGBTQ+ community with open arms. I talked w/the staff on the phone here and they confirmed they can use my pronouns (they/them), and that their entire staff is versed in gender affirming care. My dry eye conditions are managed at the moment, so I did not end up going in for an exam here (I chose a non-specialty clinic that was closer to my home), but it's a relief to know that if my dry eye conditions get worse, there's at least one dry eye clinic in town that can treat me how I want to be treated. Thanks South Waterfront, and keep up the great community care!
