This review is specifically regarding the Outpatient Physical Therapy Department at Baylor Scott & White Texas Spine & Joint Hospital on Roseland Blvd. My comments are not directed at the hospital or its other departments. I would strongly encourage anyone considering this facility for postoperative physical therapy to be cautious, particularly if you have had a complex shoulder surgery or have a surgeon-specific rehabilitation protocol. I came here following shoulder surgery performed by a specialist at Baylor Scott & White’s Complex Shoulder Institute. My surgeon provided a specific postoperative rehabilitation protocol. At my follow-up, after reviewing the therapy and exercises I had been prescribed, my surgeon told me that my therapy was not following his prescribed postoperative protocol and that some of the exercises I had been given were potentially harmful to the surgical procedures he performed. What concerns me most is that I had repeatedly raised concerns during therapy when certain exercises caused significant difficulty or pain and I could not perform them correctly. I expected those problems to result in a careful reassessment of whether the exercises were appropriate for my particular surgery and stage of recovery. I have since discontinued treatment at this facility and transferred my physical therapy elsewhere under my surgeon’s protocol. I want to be fair: the administrative staff I dealt with were professional and helpful, and my criticism is not directed toward them. My concern is specifically with the clinical management of my postoperative rehabilitation. If you are recovering from surgery here, especially a complicated procedure, I recommend making sure your therapist has your surgeon’s actual protocol, understands the procedures you had performed, and is following that protocol closely rather than assuming a standard rehabilitation program is appropriate.

I have had 4 spine surgeries here in the last year and a half and truthfully this last experience on August 4th has been far worse than my other experiences. I had my latest surgery at 7am on August 4th and the nurse that brings the patients into the prep rooms, an older black woman, was downright rude to my step mother, taunted my father and threatened to have him removed when he asked why she was rude to his wife. She has been very rude during my other surgeries as well. After my surgery I have been put into the new wing on the second floor, room 202, the staff from my first night were fantastic! They frequently checked on me, were very attentive to my needs, and genuinely seemed to care for my wellbeing. Jim was especially helpful and answered the call light very quickly. Controlling my pain was a major concern for them, they did everything they could to keep me and my fiance comfortable. The day crew on the other hand, including Dr. Aleksandra, have all been very dismissive, unattentive, and act as if I am of great inconvience. I had asked for pain medicine and no one notified the nurse until I called again an hour later after my pain had gotten much worse. I have had to change the ice in my pack myself multiple times because they do not wish to help, trying to get ice water was beneath them as well. The fridges where the ice packs are kept are on the bottom shelves of the rooms but meanwhile they express that bending, stretching, and twisting are big no-nos after spine surgery. Day shift is a drastic difference from the previous night crew. Also my prescriptions were sent to the wrong pharmacy and not the same medicine that was discussed with Dr. Aleksandra Olsson-Detwiler. They treat you as if you are a junkie looking for a fix when all you really want is to not be in pain and go home. It is a beautiful hospital with mostly friendly people but some of the staff could care less about the patient.

Fantastic experience! Everyone I met was friendly, helpful and encouraging in even the smallest aspects 💪 - Dr. Mikeska was very professional! If I could add another star I absolutely would for Ms. Mary Helen Morris⭐️ she is an absolute angel! As well as Miss Latonya (our first day nurse) the night nurse Ms. Abby and during our last day Mr. Jacob D. Thank y’all for your kindness and patience. I wish y’all blessings and very Merry Christmas 🎄

I drove my mom for a procedure. From the moment we walked in, we were taken care of with much dignity and respect! They thought of everything from complimentary coffee to giving me a way to keep track of my mom’s progress to calling me with pick up directions! (Driving around the building to patient pick-up). I’d give 10 stars if I could! Everyone so nice and accommodating! When mom went to change into her gown, it was HEATED!! So was her blanket! They literally thought of everything!!
