Ophthalmology, 2nd floor check in window 1 lady was very very unprofessional. I witness her interaction with a patient to be very rude. So, an elderly man (79), was checking in. We rode the elevator together. The lady spoke to him as he was a child on a bad behavior. The patient was asked if he would like a chaperone as an extra step given his age. The man proceeded to ask more questions regarding that step to which the check in lady repeated if there was a need for a chaperone and to sign the electronic pad. The man was there obviously for eye care, he was not daft but yet was treated as if he was. How do I know he was 79? Well, the lady was so loud, with zero care of privacy that by the time it was my turn at window 2, the whole waiting area knew of the patient’s info. While it is impossible to maintain a privacy during check in, the lady at window 1 clearly had zero intention with patience. If you are elderly, you must be daft apparently. Luckily I was called to window 2 otherwise I was about to intervene about the way she was loud to the patient. While waiting, I saw she was the same towards patients who were old. So, that says a lot of her display of customer service. If the supervisor is indeed reading this, please take this woman in window 1 and have a sit down talk to her on the way that she speaks to elderly patients. If the start of the process to see a doctor is like this, it already makes a patient feel like shit. Don’t do that. It’s pathetic, disrespectful, unprofessional, unethical and rude. Otherwise, my experience there with the staff was excellent. I am happy I didn’t have to be with lady at window 1 check in. I wish the elderly gentleman the best. Do better, you obnoxious lady at window 1 or get another job more suitable for your manners.

Dr. Tracy Moor provided the best eye care experience I’ve had in years. She is incredibly caring, supportive, and accessible. My last two appointments were outstanding—she performed a highly thorough examination and took the time to answer all of my questions. I left feeling completely reassured and valued as a patient. She is a true asset to the Shiley Eye Institute!
Excellent customer service from start to finish. The woman who originally helped me choose my glasses was incredibly helpful and made sure I found a pair that looked great on me. I don’t remember her name, but I’m very grateful for her help. More recently, Steven made replacing my broken glasses incredibly easy and had everything taken care of almost immediately. The whole process was smooth and hassle-free. Thank you both for the outstanding service!
The doctors and care are great. But try scheduling any appt at UCSD. I spent 25 minutes on hold before hanging up, just trying to make a basic appt. Why cant we call into departments direct instead of an understaffed central scheduling? If they stopped their endless building projects and hired more staff, patient care would be so much improved.
The doctors are great. I go every year to check my vision. But the contact lenses people are impossible to work with. Every single time I need to reorder lenses and I call, it ALWAYS goes to voicemail. I dont even know what they offer a phone number “service” if it’s never available. Then you try to go to orden directly to the counter, NOT POSSIBLE. You try to order online, NOT POSSIBLE. So you have to deal every single time with their incompetent service. Then I called, nothing. I showed up there, finally someone came to talk to me and said “we have ordered your lenses”, fine. We ate supposed to pay online so I wait day after day to pay my bill to have my lenses. A week goes by, nothing. No order, no message, nothing. Now after 10 days I’m calling time after time, two voice messages left today and no lenses! This is the last time I order here.
