Not just this location but Friendswood , ER and Galveston also…My experience has nothing short of disastrous. Currently sitting in waiting for a 10:00 and it’s 10:30..no end in sight. But the wait is not the issue. You will be in the hands of interns who seem to be running the show. Still waiting…..out at 11:30. I have made numerous request to share my experience with administrators and have reported my experiences on every visit but they never asked about the trip to ER, I was sent to ER for imaging and was placed in the hands of an intern/Resident who after imaging determined no substance; decided to Inspect my eye for hours and was speaking to Dr. on call on speaker. who on several occasions insinuated he needed to come in. He even spoke of admitting me based on information from the zealous Resident, I was in the ER for 6 hours and never saw the Dr. and was prescribed 7 medications by the resident. The next morning I saw a cornea specialist who was surprised by ER diagnosis, He cut out 5 of the medications and said time and the Antibiotics would do the trick. 2 recent cornea specialist have departed and now there is one on staff, He had 35 scheduled appointments this morning which probably explains delays. Dr. Sharifi is a gem.. I would say that UTMB's Google rating is generous. Should you visit any of the UTMB eye centers, Know that a Resident will have tremendous input into your initial diagnosis. I do not typically negatively review but felt that since UTMB does not want to hear my concerns, I'd share with potential clients searching for Eyecare

I’ve never been impressed with UTMB; there are so many great providers in the area and/or our Texas medical center that I typically wouldn’t choose UTMB. Side note: I work in healthcare. I had an issue with my eye and needed to get into see an eye dr asap so I gave them another chance only to be disappointed again. I will NEVER waste my time or $ at UTMB again! I saw a dr who lacked the skillset or competence to do anything other than refer me to another dr within UTMB :/ To get an appt with the dr I was referred to, the 1st available was a month out for a “consult” and ANOTHER month to get a simple in office procedure performed. Basically, a waste of TIME & $$$. I went home and called Mann Eye Clinic on Fannin who got me in within 2 days and the procedure was performed in the office with ONE visit and ONE co pay. What Mann eye clinic did in one visit would take UTMB 3 visits over 3 months with 3 copays; the true definition of incompetence and inefficiency!

I preface this review by stating all of my other UTMB doctors and their respective departments are outstanding. So I schedule an eye exam to update my prescription and discuss an issue I’m having. I knew going in that this would require a copay even though my vision insurance covers eye exams. Here’s where it goes off the rails… the young doctor I saw was friendly and inquisitive, however, photosensitivity wasn’t something he specialized in. So I’m referred to another doctor, and another copay and I received more information from AI and Oakley’s website than I did from this doctor. Then… UTMB has the nerve to require me to pay $37.50 to get a copy of my new prescription after they’ve already billed two office visits and collected two copays for something I can get for free from any other eye center in the area. I never would have booked the first appointment if I was told this upfront, much less scheduled a second appointment. This is absolutely, positively ridiculous!!!

My first time at this location. I was able to make an appointment & get seen the same day. Quick check in process. Did not wait in the waiting room for an extended time. Ashley was my nurse, she was informative, quick and willing to answer my questions. Dr. Menefee is excellent. She was professional, kind and wanted to hear my concerns. Highly recommended.

My wife has been here for her eye care and I must say the staff here are empathetic and informative and professional.
