Empire Vision @ Shop City Plaza is a wonderful Eye Care place to go if you need a eye exam & new glasses. The Optometrist & employees there are personable & kind. I was very impressed with the girl who checked me out at the end of my visit. (I wish I remembered her name) I was there longer than usual as the lady ahead of me had two small children & was having a hard time picking out the right glasses for her children & the emplyee took it upon herself to take the time to help this women & children. She was very kind & patient. Well worth the wait time on my end☺️

I’ve been to multiple Empire Visionworks locations throughout the state, and this is by far my favorite branch. The staff is friendly, helpful, knowledgeable and diverse. I always know what’s happening and what the next step is if I’m waiting. The doctor was extremely friendly and personable and informative. The conversation took an unfortunate turn when another patient was loudly frustrated outside of our exam room because of something related to insurance. The doctor made disparaging comments about people who react that way and that they’re likely unemployed and other stereotypes. I talked about a time I was having frustrating issues with my work insurance hoping to shift the tone of the conversation. When that didn’t work, I mentioned my experience getting glasses when I was on Medicaid, hoping he’d realize I didn’t share his views. He instead made disparaging comments about people on Medicaid wanting high end glasses. I’m sure the doctor didn’t consider the racist undertones to what he was saying, but it was uncomfortable. I work with clients who remind me a lot of the man in the hallway. I may get frustrated with individuals in certain moments, but I don’t stereotype people and I don’t make prejudice comments, *especially* to other clients.
When I have gone to pick up glasses in the past, usually we are asked to sit at a table and try them on to make sure they fit our face correctly and such. However, the recent time I went to pick them up, the person working at front desk assisted me in grabbing my glasses and told me I was all set and good to go. I thought I was remembering things wrong so I didn’t correct him or felt comfortable sitting down to try them on myself because it felt like he didn’t wanna help me lol (bc why do I gotta tell you how to do your job) I ended up coming back later because the glasses didn’t fit and needed them resized but I feel like I shouldn’t have had to do that in the first place. Yes, I should have advocated for myself better, but I also should be able to expect consistent care every time!
Keema was great. She was friendly efficient and thorough. Dacora was also super friendly and helpful. Based on the service that these ladies provided I would likely return to Vision Works for my Eyecare needs. Great job
The overall experience was pretty basic but there’s one thing that really frustrated me I planned on getting my note with my prescription and then I was going to order my glasses elsewhere well unbeknownst to me to do a online order I need a “ PD (Pupillary Distance)” to measure to the distance on your face for lenses from what I understand. I informed the staff I likely was going to either buy glasses another day or order elsewhere and they didn’t add the PD (Pupillary Distance) on my note because out the million test they do they couldn’t seem to do that one “unless I order glasses from here” and didn’t mention it when until I had gone all the way back home and called hoping to see if I could write that number down …it’s just kinda slimy you’re a medical provider after all. Would you not provide every bit of information a person would need to get the proper medical device on their medical documentation even if it’s not with you.
