My recent surgery to repair the meniscus in my right knee went very good. No excessive waiting. Everything explained before any action was taken. Everyone very pleasant. Met everyone that would be attending me before I left the prep room. All were very encouraging which helped me to relax. After surgery, the nurse attending me was very calm, not rushing my arousing. All instructions for home care to the wound were stated understandably. Everyone was very perfessional and I would recommend anyone to seek treatment at Woodland Heights.

All staff were absolutely wonderful! They each explained what they were doing and why. I felt very well taken care of from the time I walked in to the time I left. My surgery nurses were phenomenal and went above and beyond to make sure I was able to walk before having me get out of bed and they literally did anything and everything for me so I was not doing to much.
For my outpatient surgery... I couldn't give higher praise to ALL the staff... but for my hospital admit the week before: The nursing staff were great; one of the respiratory techs (AM shift) could learn to knock & be more personable with the patients... the bed really needed some WD40... the AC wasn't working when I arrived but was fixed... I recommend having portable fans available for respiratory patients like myself to use when the rooms are too hot... the food & food staff were "chef's kiss"...
Horrible experience! For starters the nurses are rude… Except for the nurse and the intern from SFA that helped deliver. They were very sweet and helpful. Trash in the room piled up for 2 days. No nurses at the nurse station for over 2 hours.. call light just going unanswered.. and when they did pick, my daughter asked for a cup of water and was told where she could locate the water so she can get it herself. Horrible experience and will not be back!
Just a few things, it's been YEARS since I've been a patient in a hospital. Room could have been set up better. Unable to reach bedside table with the bedrails on bed. Outlet near the head of the bed is unable to charge phone, outlet across the room does which causes a trip hazard with cords. There was no water/pitcher in room. It took too long to get someone to turn off alarm on the IV pumps. I don't expect it to be immediate, but 15-20 minutes is too long. And IV pumps are too noisy. No way to adjust thermostat, room was too warm. Staff break room was across the hall from my room, got a little noisy. Young woman loudly crying a couple of times during the night. Gentleman in room next to mine continued to call out for help all night. I had to call nurse twice to see about him. Was told he was mentally disabled and they could hear him. Would like to see someone in his state to be in a room next to the Nurse's Station. In the middle of the night, cabinets in the room next to mine were slammed and hammering was going on. Staff gather around the nurse's station and don't seem to realize how loud they are and their voices carry. I had to move to a chair on the opposite side of the room due to construction taking place directly over the bed. I was afraid someone was going to break through. However, the entire staff, from Nursing to Housekeeping to Nutrition were all superb!!! Extremely nice and personable! The Sabine County Hospital recommended Woodland Heights Medical Center and Dr. Hamaker. I'm glad I chose Woodland Heights! If I'm ever caught off guard by another medical emergency I sure hope I'm sent to Woodland Heights!
