This is a great new hospital - not only open, airy, and promoting a healthy atmosphere, but the care is outstanding. Especially, the staff that is immediately helpful. You can't take a step into Altru without someone offering to help you. Readily available. Nursing and doctors show you the North Dakota ' can do' attitude and are very professional. I am intimately familiar with Twin Cities hospitals, and don't come close to such a caring environment.

Altru hospital got a huge makeover or actually they have a brand new building w ER and all other departments. Plenty of free parking for all. Valet parking options are free also. Inside it's modern and new and clean. As for the care of providers I don't know. But they have some medical staff from other states called locums bc it's not easy to attract every medical professional to cold Grand Forks ND. This is the second most cold city in the US after Fairbanks, Alaska. But the summers are amazing. But I will say the people here are very nice. And they are down to earth. This is true north and true Midwest.

So disappointed. Had my baby, labor and delivery unit was great. Outside of the fact that I had to wait 30mins to push my child out so the doctor could get there. Then.. got the the womens/children's unit. Some of the night nurses have no bedside manner at all and do not respect patients rights to refuse care. After having a baby, if I say I don't want anyone in the room for a few hours over night(on night 2)- it doesn't mean sneak in and mess with my baby while we are trying to sleep. Also, had one knock and ask if she could weigh my baby at 2am while she's asleep. That means stripping her to a diaper and waking her up- I told the nurse I was going to wake the baby for a feeding in an hour and she could do it then and she replied it will only take a minute and proceeded to do what she wanted anyway. Multiple pediatricians giving out various information that doesn't line up with each other, causing confusion and upset, the doctors should know the hospital policies if they're going to work there. Finally, we are still here, day 4- and Noone can get through to the kitchen to put in an order, im the only 1 here with my baby so I cannot leave the room to even doordash and meet the dasher in the lobby. I called the main hospital line to try to get some help and they said they'd try to call instead of having someone walk over there. If Noone answered my call- then what is that going to do? All the way around, its been an extremely terrible experience. There are some hidden gems though; Lindsey and Heidi in labor/delivery- rock stars. Both Brianna's in woman/children's unit: amazing.

I will say that I absolutely love all of the staff that I have met. From lab and xray, receptionist, nurses and doctors. However, the last 2 surgeries I have had i ended up with infections. 1 surgery almost cost me my life. I think the surgery department needs a major deep clean or the staff needs retraining on how to scrub in for surgery.
