Dr Tetzlaff is AMAZING. She took the time needed to make sure I was completely satisfied. And also Melissa, the optician is compassionate and dedicated with correctly fitting glasses so that the incorrectly and are comfortable!
The eye exams are quick and thorough. Having your glasses made in-house is wildly expensive. They charged $800.00 just to replace my lenses in existing frames. I took my my glasses somewhere else for $300.00.
I would say my experience was just okay not the best, but not terrible either. I originally scheduled an appointment to get a vision prescription so I could order contacts. While it had been about 10 years since my last contact lens exam, I do wear glasses every single day, and already had a current prescription through Indian Health Services, unfortunately they don’t provide contact lens services, which is why I came here. I expected to pay around $50 out of pocket since my insurance covered partial, and that part was fine with me. When I arrived, I was asked to pay upfront, which I did. During the appointment, I was told the doctor “likes” to take a picture of the back of your eye, but that it would cost an additional $40. That caught me off guard because it wasn’t mentioned when I booked the appointment. It felt like something that should have been disclosed ahead of time, especially since it was strongly encouraged. Honestly, if this is something the doctor prefers or relies on, it should just be included in the overall package instead of presented as an add-on. The doctor himself was great, very thorough, informative, and took the time to answer all of my questions. I had no issues at all with him or his assistant. The main issue I had was with the checkout process and lack of transparency around pricing. When I went to pay, the staff member was very blunt and didn’t clearly explain the charges. On top of the $40 imaging fee, I was told there would be an additional $120 fee for contact lens training (how to put them in and take them out). This was never mentioned beforehand, and it significantly increased the total cost. Another concern was how the checkout staff responded when I asked questions. The more I tried to understand what I was being charged for, the more her tone came across as irritated and argumentative. I wasn’t trying to be difficult I just genuinely wanted clarity on the charges and why they weren’t explained upfront. I also drove about 45 minutes from Parker to Havasu for this appointment. If I hadn’t had the money to cover these unexpected costs, it would have been a complete waste of a trip. That’s why being transparent about pricing ahead of time is so important, it shows consideration for patients and their time. I also expected to receive my prescription the same day so I could order contacts elsewhere, like I’ve done before. However, the way the process is set up, it felt more geared toward having you order contacts directly through them, which was a bit frustrating. It is what it is, but it would’ve been nice to know that ahead of time. What I expected to be about $50 ended up being over $200, which was frustrating. I completely understand that vision care can be expensive, but the lack of upfront communication about these additional fees was disappointing. It would have helped to know all potential costs before coming in so I could make an informed decision or plan accordingly. Also, when I asked if my insurance covered the eye imaging, I was told it covered $1 out of the $40. While technically true, the way it was communicated came across as dismissive. Overall, the doctor and clinical staff were excellent, but the customer service at checkout and the unexpected fees took away from the experience. I would recommend this office for the quality of care, but I strongly suggest asking for a full breakdown of costs ahead of time to avoid surprises.
Well I think we found out that the left eye has been out of commission since September. My glasses are going to try and see better but I do not think it will work well. Shipley is seeing me end of May hopefully getting better vision
