I do not recommend seeing Dr. Melissa or Dr. Kristi. First, I want to make it clear that this review is not about Dr. Jenay. She has been my optometrist for years, and she has been wonderful. I have a very complex prescription (-14 with astigmatism), along with floaters, a vitreous detachment, and chronic dry eye. Finding an optometrist who understands my eyes has always been difficult, and Dr. Jenay has consistently provided excellent care. Unfortunately, every experience I’ve had with the other doctors at this practice has been disappointing. Last year, I saw Dr. Kristi for double vision in one eye. She recommended eye drops that made my dry eye worse and referred me to a vision therapy clinic that later told me they don’t even provide the type of vision therapy I was referred for. She also asked whether I experienced double vision without my contacts or glasses, even though someone with a prescription as high as mine can barely see without corrective lenses. Earlier this year, Dr. Jenay recommended new contact lenses and prescription tinted glasses. Before I placed the order, I was told my contacts would be considered medically necessary and that my insurance had been checked. Four months later, I unexpectedly received a bill for several hundred dollars because they weren’t covered. Had I been told that beforehand, I would have purchased my contacts elsewhere. The office eventually offered a 20% discount, which I appreciated, but my concern was that my insurance should have been verified before encouraging me to place such an expensive order. The final straw happened before an international trip when I called to order daily disposable contacts that I had successfully worn for about 15 years. Dr. Melissa insisted I needed to come in for a fitting, even though these were not new lenses for me. I agreed to come in the next day, but shortly afterward I received another phone call telling me not to come because the practice had decided they could no longer meet my vision needs. They offered to refund my payments and dismissed me as a patient. That explanation made no sense considering Dr. Jenay had been successfully treating my vision for years. My vision hadn’t suddenly changed overnight. Throughout these interactions, I was frustrated, but I was never disrespectful, never used profanity, and never threatened anyone. I simply asked questions about an unexpected bill and expressed frustration over being required to come in for contacts I had worn for years. To make matters worse, after I was dismissed, I tried twice to speak with Dr. Jenay and was not allowed to. I’ve been seeing optometrists since I was six years old, and I’m now 32. I have never been treated this way by any medical office. Being dismissed without a meaningful explanation after years as a loyal patient was humiliating and incredibly disappointing. The only reason this practice receives any stars from me is because of Dr. Jenay. If you have a complex prescription or value clear communication, accurate insurance verification, and compassionate patient care, I would recommend looking elsewhere.

Dr Janay is a true gem in her field. Shes a self proclaimed eye geek and she pointed out things I found interesting. TEAM STARS IN THEIR EYES. The orderliness of the office, moving patients right along from the prescreening phase, to the office visit was quick and efficent. Full disclosure, the opticians seem to be kind humans, but my frustration is with the entire situation. My prescription was placed in the hands of one of the opticians, when I told them, "no thank you, I'd like to get mine online to save money." They were sorta pushy, and suggested I just browse, as they gave me extremely low estimates on what my insurance would cover. With add-ons that included lighter lenses, blue light, etc...she estimated something like $80. I felt like with those additions it would be just a bit more expensive than online, with a designer frame, so why not? I selected a frame sat down with her again and she crosses out the original estimate and apologizes and essentially says its going to be double for the add-ons I want. After spending quite some time, looking I felt kind of strong armed into making the selection, and removing the extras, i was still over budget. Although it was of my own accord, I felt swindled. I checked online that night to see if they had a refund policy, because as I thought it over, I really didnt want to move forward with the most basic lenses in a designer frame for $100+ with my eye insurance. Although there isnt much on the website, I found that they would not accept returns, just fixes. I hoped that when I picked them up, that the quality would make up for these shortcomings. It didnt. Instead, I'm stuck with glasses that I paid so much for, that I probably wont wear. Even if they implemented a 30 return/refund policy, I would have felt more confident about this office. It sucks because I had such a great exam and I felt like I learned so much about my eyes. But getting pressured into buying overpriced glasses, just feels uncomfortable. Yes, I know it was my choice, but it didnt feel great. And the optician took my prescription so fast, so that I couldnt just pay and walk out with my prescription. It ended up being $150 for the most basic options, in Kate Spade frames. Just an hour after wearing them, I got a wicked headache. My prescription had only changed by a hair. I went to my usual online frame store. For $120, I got prescription blue light glasses, and a pair of transitional sunglasses. The pressure to buy, the price point, and inflexible return policy are why people going online to transact. **************** Asha, the front desk manager contacted me after review and able to refund me. She was prompt and polite with her communication with me.

I have only been to one other eye doctor before seeing Dr. Janay, and I am honestly blown away by the level of professionalism and care she provides every single time I visit her office. I recently suffered a concussion and was experiencing significant dizziness. For several weeks, I couldn’t comfortably wear my glasses or contact lenses, which was both frustrating and concerning. When I explained not only what I was experiencing physically but also my financial situation, Dr. Janay met me with compassion, flexibility, and understanding. She worked with me on a payment structure so I could still be seen, which meant more than I can express. What truly stood out was how she handled the appointment itself. She reassured me that my prescription had not changed and took the time to clearly explain that the symptoms I was experiencing were normal following a concussion. She was patient, thorough, and incredibly calming. She allowed me to be vulnerable about my concerns and genuinely put my mind at ease by letting me know that everything was going to be okay. If you are looking for a proactive, professional, and compassionate optometrist who truly prioritizes patient care, I cannot recommend Dr. Janay enough.
