I dont know if this is true. This is the 2nd time I get an email from Black Rock Vision Center indicating that they are going to be permanently closing. I tried calling yesterday and today and no answer. Just seems very disorganized. Seems sketchy. The turnover in staffing is very normal as there are always new doctors at every yearly checkup and it's usually that the other doctor is no longer working with the company.

I have been a patient here for nine years and I will never be going back. I have felt that my prescriptions weren’t accurate for a few years but today I was treated with a level of disrespect and disregard that has no place in a medical office. I was told that they do not accept my insurance over the phone, but later found them on my list of in network providers. I clarified many times that I was intending to pay out of pocket for my visit because of this. Due to a system error, my insurance was coming up as expired and I was accused of knowing about this by Kristina, the office manager. When trying to clarify that I was told my insurance wasn’t accepted and that I would be paying out of pocket, I was interrupted and told that I need to leave. The technician I was with was an absolute sweetheart and apologized profusely and went out to try to help with the whole debacle but the doctor and front desk staff were screaming at a man kicking him out as well. I could hear every word of this altercation and was horrified that not only they would treat patients like this but do it so loudly that other patients can hear it. I am absolutely appalled by this behavior and will not be returning. The technicians are amazing, but from my experience no one else at Black Rock Vision listens to patients or cares about them.

ZERO STARS. I have had maybe 5-6 encounters with this office, either over the phone or in person, and literally every interaction I've had has been dreadful. Details: After my job switched insurance and I had to find a new eye doctor, I had a hard time back in November getting through to BRV to schedule as a new patient for my annual exam. I eventually got through and scheduled an appointment. The day of my appt, I got a call an HOUR before the appt saying they had to reschedule. So we rescheduled. Already red flags, but whatever. My rescheduled date comes around the following week and I drive to the office and I'm informed I'm not on the schedule. Turns out, they rescheduled me a second time and didn't call me. The ladies in the office treated me like I was the one who messed up and after a very cringey interaction, rescheduled me. Finally, my appointment ACTUALLY happens, now two months after actively trying to get in. Already having had a few weird interactions, the appointment, the staff, the waiting room, everything about this place made my skin crawl. For some reason they were completely baffled at how to process my insurance (aetna) so I had to lend them my cards for the entire visit and then wait around after the visit for them to figure it out. When one of the girls did the push of air on my eye, she was using a HANDHELD device. If you've never had this done, it's normally a large machine on a table with a place to rest your chin and stabilize your forehead so it can get UNCOMFORTABLY close to your eyeball and then puts out a shot of air, and she was using a handheld one without anything to stabilize herself. I commented on this and she made it sound like it's normal practice and she's "got very steady hands"...okay so what if something knocks you? I've been seeing optometrists regularly for over 20 years and I've never had someone do this handheld. This is when she made a joke about blinding me. Nobody throughout this process made me feel like my comfort mattered and they made me feel like my lived experiences have been wrong and I wouldn't know better. The only normal interaction from this visit was with the actual doctor, however, he tried to tell me that a certain test would be an extra charge, which I've never had to pay extra for. He pressed me on it saying it's always been an extra charge and I pressed back that insurance, no matter which one I've had, has always covered everything. Thankfully, he "waived" the fee for me and said next time they'd charge me. Maybe I'm wrong, but I smell B.S. After my appt, they gave me two free pairs of sample contacts to choose from, which is not common practice and that shouldn't go unappreciated. They said to test them both out and call back to place my order. I called a day or two later to place the order and I was abruptly told to call back tomorrow. No explanation. OK...so I called back the next day. I was told again to call back the following day. I stopped her before she hung up and said that I've simply been trying to tell you guys which pair I want to order for the last two days, and I don't understand why I keep being told to "call back tomorrow". She gave me some excuse about how busy they are, meanwhile I've been jerked around by these people for two months already, I should have priority at this point. So she acquiesced and told me she'd place my order. Finally. My appointment was on 12/29/25 and today is now 2/26/26 and I haven't heard anything from them. When I tried calling earlier today, a Thursday during business hours, they are closed and there is no voicemail set up in which to leave a message. I'm utterly irate and find this entire practice asinine. Awful, awful business from start to finish. Don't go here. Hopefully when I call them to get my prescription so I can order my contacts elsewhere, they don't withhold it from me because I left a bad review. It appears that they like to invalidate the bad reviews by getting aggressively defensive when they could instead try to take constructive feedback and be better.

UPDATE FROM OWNERS EARLIER RESPONE I PROVIDE PICTURE SHOWING I WAS INDEED A PATIENT. JUST TOOK MY PERSONAL INFO OFF. BUT I FINALLY GOT BETTER INSURANCE SO I WILL BE GOING SOME WHERE NEW AND BRING IN MY EYE GLASSES AND SCRIPT PROVIDED BY YOU AND WILL UPDATE EVERYONE ON MY FINDINGS. I came to Black Rock Desert Vision in Reno because my insurance only covered this location. Even after reading some concerning reviews, I decided to give them a chance and even saved up extra money so I could upgrade my lenses. In total I spent almost $300 out of pocket. My eye exam itself seemed fine, although the doctor had a trainee with him and actually read off the wrong prescription the first time. He corrected it, so I trusted that everything would be accurate. When I picked up my glasses, I immediately noticed something was off. I couldn’t see anything up close, and honestly, I could almost see better long-distance with my glasses off. I wore them for about a week straight to try to “adjust,” but nothing improved. When I went back in, the doctor spent maybe five minutes with me before saying I “needed bifocals” and that I’d have to pay another $160. When I asked why this wasn’t mentioned in the first place, during my actual appointment or when I was choosing lenses and frames, I was told ro keep wearing them my eyes would adjust to them ...what a joke.I feel like that is information they absolutely should know ahead of time and communicate to the patient before they spend hundreds of dollars. Overall, I’m extremely disappointed. After spending so much out of pocket, I still don’t have glasses that work for me, and the lack of clear communication and rushed service made the whole experience even worse.

Went in Nov. 25th 2025, got an eye exam, ordered new lenses, frames, sunglasses, the works! Told they would be ready mid December. Gave them a call a few days after x-mas and was told the lens company was backed up do to the holidays. No problem. Called again on the 12th of January 4 times between 12pm and 4pm, on a Monday, and no one picked up. Called again on the 13th, and I was told that my almost $700 worth of glasses should arrive soon. Here we are on the 29th of January, and I now have to prove that this happened to my insurance so I don't have to wait a YEAR, to get another partially COVERED (by insurance) exam and glasses. My prescription changed, supposedly. SO PISSED OFF!!!
