I have attended clarkson eyecare in Clayton since I was 8 years old, and I always look forward to my next eye appointment. It is my favorite day of the year after Christmas and my birthday. Donyeal, Alyssa and Cass are just a few of the phenomenal staff who serve this location. Not only is Dr. Strasser a seasoned, thorough and knowledgeable O.D., but she continually curates a staff invested in the excellence of their work, and the wellbeing of their patronage. I couldn’t recommend this location enough.

I had a very disappointing experience at this place. They called me to pick up my prescribed glasses, so I went in expecting them to be ready. However, the frame was still extremely uneven and did not fit my face properly. During my first visit, I clearly explained the problem to a staff member, and I was told they would look into what they could do. The next day, I received a call saying my glasses were ready to be picked up, but the frame was essentially unchanged. During my second visit, the staff member assisting me had apparently not received any information about the issue I had already explained. I had to repeat the same concerns several times. Instead of carefully examining the frame, she told me that my ears were uneven and that this was the reason for the problem. I have been wearing glasses for nearly 40 years, and while I understand that everyone’s ears may be slightly uneven, that does not explain why the frame itself was so noticeably crooked. Even more frustratingly, she told me that I was being condescending when I was simply trying to explain the problem and get my glasses properly adjusted. Before making that judgment, I believe the staff should have taken more responsibility for checking the frame carefully. Ironically, another employee who initially handed me the glasses could clearly see how uneven they were, yet told me that they looked even. Eventually, the employee who accused me of being condescending was able to adjust the glasses much better. What upset me most was not simply the initial mistake, but the lack of accountability and kindness in handling it. Instead of first acknowledging the problem and trying to fix it, I felt that the staff were trying to shift the responsibility onto me. I had to make two trips because of what seemed to be a lack of care and skill during the initial adjustment, and I received no apology for the inconvenience. I would not return to this store and cannot recommend it based on my experience.
I had a great experience at Clarkson Eyecare in Clayton, especially as a first-time glasses wearer. Dawn was fantastic—she was friendly, patient, and extremely helpful throughout the entire process. She made choosing my first pair of glasses easy and comfortable. I really appreciate her help and would definitely recommend Dawn and Clarkson Eyecare!
I went in for a concern about double vision. Sara Strasser listened to my symptoms, helped refine my words, asked questions about my medical history, and ran immediate tests. The office manager, Dawn, walked me through the tests and made me feel at ease. Thanks to their careful attention and helpfulness, I got the referral I needed. Dawn even personally called me to confirm the referral, date, and time, and what to expect. Their thoroughness and kindness made a concerning situation easier to manage. I really appreciate it!
I have been a patient at your office for some time, and until recently, I have had no major concerns. However, my experience on January 26, 2026, was extremely disappointing and unprofessional. When I arrived on time for my scheduled appointment, I was met with unnecessary rudeness from the front desk staff. I was told that the office had been calling me regarding my appointment and that no return calls were received. This is inaccurate. The only call I received was on Friday confirming my appointment for 1/26, and I attended as scheduled. I was then spoken to rudely regarding my insurance being listed as inactive. I calmly explained that it was inactive because I now have new insurance, yet the tone and attitude remained disrespectful. At that point, I questioned why I was being treated so poorly. I decided to reschedule, at which time another staff member rushed out and stated that I had to do same-day appointment due to “missing several appointments,” which is also not true. Notes are being placed in my account indicating that calls were made when they were not. In fact, I had to call the office myself last week after missing one appointment due to mixing up my dates, and I explained that I had not been receiving courtesy reminder calls. I am a nurse with a very hectic schedule, but I always do my best to communicate and be respectful. Disrespect from staff is not acceptable under any circumstances. Unfortunately, one particular staff member has consistently been rude in the past, she’s very much so racist and while I previously gave the benefit of the doubt, this interaction confirmed my concerns. I truly value the care provided by the doctor, but due to the ongoing behavior of the front desk staff, I will be seeking care elsewhere.
