I went in for an eye exam and gave them my insurance card. They charged me a $50 copay and said lenses would cost $100. When I left and looked at my insurance details, my vision insurance showed that my co-pay is supposed to be $10 and lenses are supposed to cost $40 with insurance. I called and was told that they had billed me for a "medical exam" using my medical insurance, and that it was my fault for not telling them about my vision insurance, through the same insurance company. The woman working refused to reduce my co-payment to $10 even when I said I would come back and buy lenses if she did. Now that I'm paying attention, I realize that something similar happened to me once at another Cohen's location, so perhaps this is company policy. In any case, avoid this store unless you want to be overcharged and gaslighted when you complain. No one who goes in for an eye exam expects you to bill their medical insurance or be given a medical exam unless they specifically ask for it. You run a glasses store. This is common sense and basic human decency.

They are awful. I was given trial contact lenses and paid for my year supply of lenses. After a few days, I was unhappy with my vision. I tried to return my order of new unopened contact lenses so I could get a second eye exam to check the prescription and they refused to accept the return. Everything was new and unopened, it was within a few days of purchasing, and I was returning them because I was unhappy with my sight! Their response was that they wouldn't accept returns and I should probably go see another doctor. That was it. No calls to anyone at Cohen's were answered about this. I will never go back. This isn't the first issue I've had with them, they tend to be rude and pushy to their customers. I kept going because they were closer to my work, but this is the last time.
Stay away from this place. My daughter went here and almost got ripped off! We have Spectara Insurance. This place claimed that they only cover 10% of eye exam, and she has to order one full year of contact lenses to use her insurance. Even with her insurance, it would be $850 for one year dailies. Why would anyone buy insurance if it costs more to have the insurance? When I explained that other Cohen's opticals did not charge that much and you are trying to rip my daughter off, then she hung up on me. They are even refusing to give her a week trial, because I talked to the manager and said I will write a negative review on Yelp, Google, and BBB. I verified with my insurance company, this place is inaccurate about the coverage. They said she still has to pay for the exam, so she paid $95 and left with the prescription. I ordered one year supply for her online and paid $550 without using her insurance. Delete review
I went to Cohen's Fashion Optical in Midtown Manhattan for the first time last week for a vision exam. I really liked the staff including the optometrist and optician. I was given a thorough eye exam including a glaucoma screening and also a new RX. I picked out two new pairs of eyeglasses from the enormous selection with the help of one of the sales associates. I was very pleased with every aspect of the store.
It was time to see the eye doctor for my annual eye test and I chose Cohen Fashion Optical because I wanted to get a cheap optical exam and also pick up some brand name sunglasses. I was pleasantly surprised at the thoroughness of my eye exam but also the selection of cheap sunglasses by well known designers. After I left the store I realized that it was the best optometrist appointment ever.
