A Lesson Learned the Hard Way at Costco Optical Taking my 6-year-old daughter to get her first pair of glasses should have been an exciting and seamless experience. Unfortunately, it turned into a frustrating situation that highlighted a lack of care, attention, and true customer service. We visited Costco Optical later in the evening, around 7:15 PM, with only two days left on her current prescription. I asked one of the employees for help locating the kids' glasses section, and while she showed us where to look, I could sense her annoyance, perhaps because it was near closing time and we seemed "unprepared" without our insurance card. Despite the awkward vibe, we picked out two pairs, and I requested that my daughter’s measurements be taken so I could return the next day to finalize the process without bringing her along. The employee entered the glasses into the system, and we left feeling we’d done our part. The next day, I returned and was fortunate to work with Mary, the manager. She was much more patient and explained the process of fitting glasses when I noticed one pair had longer arms. I appreciated her reassurance, saying, “If they don’t work, we’ll figure it out.” Not being an expert in eyewear, I trusted her and proceeded with the order. Fast forward to when the glasses arrived. During the fitting, it became clear something wasn’t right – the glasses looked big. When we asked, “Are these kids’ glasses?” the staff went to check and discovered they were men’s glasses. This was shocking. How did men’s frames end up on the kids' wall, and why didn’t anyone catch this mistake earlier? At this point, we were presented with two frustrating options: 1. Return the glasses and lose $50 due to a promo deduction. 2. Get an updated prescription for my daughter since her previous one had now expired – costing us an additional $30. Essentially, we’d lose either way, and after everything, we’d only “save” about $15. What bothers me most isn’t the money but the process itself. We are not optometrists or eyewear experts – we relied on the staff's guidance to make the right decision. Mary later explained that smaller men’s frames “tend to fit kids’ faces,” but as parents navigating this for the first time, how were we supposed to know the difference between “small men’s frames” and "actual kids’ glasses?" This situation could have been avoided with a little more attention to detail and customer care. I trusted the professionals in this setting to guide us correctly, but instead, we were left feeling misled and unsupported. Mistakes happen, but the lack of accountability and proactive problem-solving turned what should’ve been a simple process into a drawn-out, costly ordeal. Customer service isn’t just about transactions – it’s about helping people, guiding them, and ensuring they feel confident in their decisions. Sadly, this experience felt far from that. I hope this review serves as a reminder to prioritize customers and double-check the little things, especially when people are trusting you to “know better.” Costco Optical, I expected more.

They have a good selection of frames. Their prices were excellent. I got progressive lenses and when the glasses arrived, I really could not see well out of them. I went back and the optician spent a lot of time with me to get the lens measurement perfect to my unequal pupil height. She really spent quite a bit of time to get it perfect -- all the while letting me know that she would keep working until it worked. And it did work. My previous glasses have had to be expensive "premium" progressives lenses that cost 4 times as much because other opticians could not get the focus zones to line up.. These work just as well as those now. I would definitely go back.
Tiffany was sensational. Gently guided me through a myriad of options on 3 pair of glasses, all for different purposes. Knowledgeable. Helpful. Pleasant. And let me know 2 of the 3 pair were eligible for a current sale at $50 off, which I didn't know. Just a truly wonderful experience!
Asked what kind of insurance I had when I arrived, I told them Eyemed, they said ok no problem and had me try on glasses. It wasn't until I was paying that they told me that they don't accept eyemed and gave me an out of network form. So I went ahead and paid for them.... just filled out the form (online) and eyemed doesn't cover lenses that are out of network, which Costco clearly knows and failed to disclose just to get my money. VERY irritated and will not shop here again.
Great experience! Very helpful and competent staff. Best price by far compared to other stores. Stay away from visionworks, I couldn't even see clearly and they sent them back 3 times for modification.
