Dr. Chu is professional, attentive and I was excited to finally find a good eye doctor in NY. The problem is that for her to function properly she needs to have good support, and her administrative staff is dysfunctional. When they scheduled me they took all of my information but it was only when I arrived that they gave me the runaround and I had to scramble to get a referral, only to find out a few minutes later they don’t actually need it. They only take cash or checks, so I had arrived with my copay check, and before getting a “hello” or any kind of acknowledgment as a new patient, my check was grabbed and proceeded. It was also strange that the woman who took the check overheard me when asking my PCP’s office for the referral saying “I think I have an eye infection” and looked at me and said “yes, for sure” That made me think she was the doctor so I asked other questions and she didn’t deny it. I found the entire situation super unprofessional but was determined to come back because the doctor herself is so great, so I scheduled the follow up appointment she wanted me to have. Then I went to the pharmacy they sent the prescription to to fill the prescription I was given, and it turned out to be a particular pharmacy that doesn’t take my insurance, which is a very common insurance provider and I have not had that issue anywhere else. Ultimately I felt uncomfortable going back, and I called to cancel my appointment, only to hear they don’t even have me in their system for the appointment time, which pretty much sealed the deal and made me feel I did the right thing. If Dr. Chu reads her reviews I recommend she seriously consider who runs her business because you can be the best doctor in the world but if the people who represent you and are meant to support you are not invested in your success you will never achieve it.
