We were referred to this clinic by our pediatrician for a routine eye exam. They told us they take vision insurance, which they absolutely do not and billed the visit to our medical insurance costing us hundreds of dollars for a simple eye exam. Of course this was not disclosed to us until after the visit. The Office Manager was wildly rude and said it wasn’t their job to tell us if they were in network or not, and that since they were in network with our medical benefits, they had done nothing wrong. We also waited over an hour in a crowded waiting room with no seating showing they overbook their providers to get as many people in to collect as much money as possible with no regard to patient care.

First, the receptionist was extremely rude when we came to our first appointment because we didn't know who our doctor was or where to check in and I dared to ask her for assistance. Then, it took forever to get assistance with frames. No one told us we needed to sign in for that too until we had been waiting over 30 minutes. When they scheduled my son's contact fitting appointment we were assured they could do it first thing in the morning so I wouldn't have to miss 3 hours of work to do it in the afternoon. But no, we get a call as they're closing the Thursday before his appointment that the contact appointment will have to be changed: no first am and no weekend appointments for that. Whatever. Then, we get a text his glasses are in, so he gets a ride from a friend to go get them. He signs in. There's NO ONE ahead of him on the list. He still waits over an hour with no assistance, had to miss his work, and ended up having to leave without his glasses because they were taking so long and his ride couldn't wait anymore. You are not respected here. They even have a sign on the reception desk about what to do if you're waiting over x amount of time for your doctor appointment... clearly they know it's a problem. I truly wish I had gone somewhere else!
Dr. Chang and the staff and associates at Houston Eye Associates are phenomenal!!! From the moment I entered the building, until the time I left, I was treated with the utmost respect. Dr. Chang is extremely knowledgeable, informative and highly focused on my medical care. I learned many facts about my eye and eye health that was previously unbeknownst to me. I will return for cataract surgery in a few weeks and I feel confident and comfortable under his care! I will not hesitate to recommend Dr.Chang to anyone seeking a competent eye doctor situated within a community of wonderful health care professionals.
This place has good reviews on Google, but horrible on Yelp and I wish I'd read those before going to this office. As with others on Yelp, I had a bad experience with this office, but it wasn't about wait times per se (although they were ~20 minutes for each visit). I first saw Dr. Fish, an ophthalmologist, to discuss lens implants. She was good and I liked her, but we decided it was too early and I could try contacts instead. I then saw Dr. Laurenzi after waiting weeks. She did the initial contact exam, but then I never saw her after that during my next two visits, for which I had to wait weeks in between. Her communication skills are severely deficient, given that rather than talk to me directly, she pawned me off on her assistants, even when I had questions for her. Eventually, I gave up and just got my prescription to take elsewhere for glasses or contacts. Bottom line - it was a horrible patient interaction and experience. I'll be looking for another optometrist and checking other review platforms besides Google going forward.
Dr. Kristin Minkowski is an amazing eye doctor & surgeon! I’m starting my 4th year with her and I couldn’t be happier! I was referred to her by one of her former professors (well know in her on right as well) when I moved. She is highly qualified, and personable. A great asset to Houston Eye Associates!
