Kalmus Optical is proof that you shouldn't judge a book by its cover. What appears to be an unassuming little shop from the outside is a first-class operation on the inside. Dr. Chen, the optometrist, gave me a thorough exam and provided a perfect prescription, even noticing that there was a discrepancy in my prior Rx — a discovery that resolved a minor issue that I was never quite able to identify. Afterward, when I explained to Vitaly, the optician, why I was ready to give up progressives after many years of wearing them, he clearly explained to me (with illustrations) three distinct options I had for a new pair of progressive lenses, from their prices to their different fields of vision for distance, mid-range and reading. Ina, behind the counter, patiently let me try on frame after frame, offering helpful suggestions along the way. Then it was back to Vitaly for the final measurements. The result, quite simply, is the best pair of glasses I have ever had. They are so comfortable, both in how they feel and how I see, that I don't want to take them off. For years, I have walked past Kalmus, barely noticing that it was there (as it has been since 1949). Now when I walk by, I smile and give a nod of appreciation.

I stopped in today to have a tricky pair of frames adjusted, and I’m so glad I did. They were incredibly kind, patient, and meticulous from the moment I walked in. My frames are very cheap and don’t have metal in the arms, which makes them difficult to adjust. Instead of rushing it, he carefully removed the lenses and reshaped the frame from the center to relieve the pressure behind my ears. Such a thoughtful workaround, and done with real precision. We also had the sweetest conversation. You can tell this is a true neighborhood shop that takes pride in what they do. Places like this are rare now. Highly recommend.
They very kindly adjusted my frames (for free) that had been purchased elsewhere. Thank you so much!
The team at Kalmus is excellent! They were patient, efficient, and professional, and were helpful in ensuring that my glasses had a perfect fit before heading out. All at a friendly price too! If anyone has glasses needs, this local institution is the place to go.
The best experience I've ever had in selecting a pair of glasses! (and I've been wearing glasses since I was 6 years old) Everyone in the store is very friendly but what helps Kalmus stand out is how knowledgeable their opticians are! They were able to study my face and recommend frames from their wide selection suited for my nose bridge, face shape and style preferences. They were efficient and had my glasses ready in 4 days. Great value too!
