I've purchased several pairs of glasses from this shop over the past few years and each time it was a great experience. The staff and the owner truly care about satisfying customers. On the subject of styling, they have a great selection of frames, they're not pushing anything, and they will be thoughtful and honest about what works for you practically and aesthetically. As to product -- most important -- they are craftspeople. They will make sure you get a set of frames that work for your needs, they'll measure your eyes properly to produce correct lenses for the frames; they'll make sure that you receive the lens coatings and extras you require and don't pay for those you don't need; they'll adjust the nose pads and the temples (the arms on the sides of the frames that rest on your ears) to ensure a proper fit; and quite remarkably they can fix pretty badly damaged or broken glasses and often succeed in giving them new life. I recently brought them a set of very expensive frames that I'd originally purchased elsewhere, and which had been badly damaged (metal temple arm twisted off and hinge damaged). I had a new scrip and needed new lenses in any case, and they could have easily pushed me to buy new frames by telling me that the frames I'd brought in could not be repaired. Instead, they took a look at the damaged frames I'd brought in and indicated they could work on and repair them. Ergo, they recommended that I get new lenses for the frames and they'd work on the frames to put them back in good shape once they installed the new lenses. I did just what they recommended and as a result I've got my favorite glasses for at least another couple of years. Similarly, a few years ago after I'd bought some Oliver Peoples prescription sunglasses from them, I managed to sit on and crush them so badly I was sure they were ruined. I brought them into Maximeyes and they fixed them by heating and reshaping the acetate frames by hand. I still have those sunglasses today. Shops like this one -- where the staff and the owners know their stuff, want you to have a good experience, and you can trust their expertise in buying an inherently expensive product -- are becoming rarer and rarer in New York. This is the kind of shop you want to go to when you're shopping for or buying a new set of glasses.

Worst and most patronizing experience I ever had at a glasses shop. Very disappointed. Between insurance and out of pocket, I paid around $600 for a pair of progressive lenses. Something was wrong with them from the start - flat, level surfaces appeared crooked and the floor appeared much closer than reality. The eye doctor was super nice and checked my prescription again to confirm that she got it right and she did, so they did change my lenses in an effort to fix the issue- they said the lenses might have been too thin. That took a couple of weeks and then I was told to let my brain adjust for a few weeks. I did that and I still had major vision issues and went in and the owner checked the lenses again with a machine and said they appeared fine and to just give my brain more time to get used to them. After all that I went back today hoping to get the issue resolved and was told there’s nothing they can do and that I should wait until my insurance renewal to get new ones… Bottom line, nice doctor, but this establishment does not fully stand behind their product. I spent hours trying to deal with this issue and made 5-6 visits and was sent away with defective glasses and I’m very dissatisfied. They said that the insurance company makes the lenses ( which is false) and that it’s there issue ( which is false). The tried to pin this on the insurance company instead of taking responsibility. Great place to get an eye exam or contacts but do not buy glasses from here.

I’ve gotten multiple pairs of glasses from this place. They have an amazing selection and the staff is always amazing super helpful and honest about what works best for you.

The optometrist doesn’t take my insurance. No one called me to verify although I made an appointment on Zocdoc at least 2 weeks ago. I never got to see the actual optometrist, but the woman at the front desk was not very helpful nor did she seem to care. Very disappointing. When I asked why they didn’t call me, she said that they “requested a callback on Zocdoc.” Waste of my time and theirs. Crappy service. Do not recommend.

I was traveling and had some unexpected, sad news back home which made for a sad day. I took off my glasses (to wipe my eyes, sheesh) and the screw fell out! Despite several attempts to fix it myself I resigned to finding a nearby glasses establishment which brought me to Maximeyes. The friendly optician complimented my (literal) bandaid repair and quickly fixed my glasses properly. I mentioned having an otherwise bad day and he said, this was an easy fix and he was happy to help bring some levity to my experience. I just wanted to say thank you.
