I had a recent visit for an eye exam and contact lens appointment. The actual eye care itself seemed fine and facility was clean (which is why this is 2 stars), but I have concerns about billing transparency and trusting their process. During my visit, a retinal imaging test was performed without me being clearly told it was optional or that it would result in an additional $50 charge… I was told just “put your chin here.” I only learned about the fee afterward. I understand that some additional imaging services are common in eye exams and can be beneficial for those who need it… which I didn’t, but patients should be clearly informed beforehand and given the choice to opt in. I also had a separate $40 contact lens evaluation fee for a contact brand I was happy with and didn’t want to change. Additionally, this was not something I was charged at my previous providers and it all went through my insurance. Once I questioned these charges, they waived the optional service (which online says it should be free for first time customers… I wonder how many first time customers they have gotten this over on), but held firm on the fitting saying they just billed differently. My main concern is the lack of clear communication and consent before services were provided. I would encourage the office to make sure patients are informed of any optional services and associated costs ahead of time so they can make an informed decision and trust their provider.
