Patient Recommendation for Dr. Edward Korot Dr. Edward Korot is an absolutely amazing and profoundly talented surgeon. I came to his care at Retina Specialists of Michigan following a severe surgical complication at another major university hospital. During a routine YAG laser procedure, the previous surgeon fired too close to the periphery, completely destroying my natural lens capsule margin. This structural breach left my replacement intraocular lens (IOL) entirely untethered, allowing it to float chaotically into the vitreous gel of my left eye.Faced with this ocular emergency, Dr. Korot performed a highly intricate, two-hour surgical procedure. He meticulously performed a vitrectomy to clear the gel, safely extracted the dislodged lens, and executed an advanced intrascleral fixation to permanently secure a new lens directly to the white wall of my eye.Prior to the procedure, standard medical literature and research indicated that a complex lens exchange of this magnitude typically yields a visual recovery of only 40% to 60% of one's original baseline. The results achieved by Dr. Korot, however, completely shattered those statistics. At my one-day post-op visit, my visual efficiency had already rebounded to within 15% of my baseline. Remarkably, at my seven-day post-op check, my vision had sharpened to within a mere 7% of my original baseline vision—achieving an outstanding 20/30 visual acuity. An intrascleral fixation requires an elite level of surgical talent and micro-spatial precision. The surgeon must manually anchor the spherical lens at an exact micrometer depth and axis so that incoming light focuses perfectly onto the retina at the back of the eye. Dr. Korot possesses that rare, world-class skill. His precision, technical brilliance, and patient-centered care restored my sight when I was facing a visual crisis. He is nothing short of extraordinary, and I give him my highest possible recommendation.

Fantastic Staff!! Personable, Professional and extremely knowledgeable. Top notch experience from start to finish.
I’m writing this review for my mother Margaret. They took her in immediately as an emergency w/ bleeding retina. The office visits have all been well done - on time etc. She has Dr.Southerland to thank for her eyesight and continued independent living.
I take my mom to the Muskegon office and Dr. Pezda is so good at what he does. He's very knowledgeable and an amazing doctor! The staff are really nice, professional, and have truly beautiful souls ❤️ I definitely recommend going to this office and partake of the services they offer if you're in need of great eye doctor specialists 🥰
I am a RN, BSN who has worked in healthcare for over 30 years . I am my 84 yr old mother’s advocate and this office’s front line is unprofessional and does not return phone calls. Referral was made 2/3/25 and as of 3/21/25 no return call from the scheduler. When I asked to talk to the office manager the woman I spoke with was sarcastic and unapologetic. As a patient advocate for over 30 years this saddens me as many elderly people do not have family involved and this office practice will hinder their follow through to make appointments. I am not able to rate anyone past the front line. I have heard enough to cancelled this referral and made one with another practice . Where is the care and value for the patients from staff on the front line ?? Lisa Smith
