Richard Joyce Optometrist

The negative reviews above certainly don't reflect my experience with Dr. Joyce and his staff. I've been going to Dr. Joyce for over 10 years and have been extremely satisfied with the service and care I've gotten from him and his staff. I've never experienced unfriendliness or inattention. The selection of frames is extensive and if there's something they don't have, they'll order it for you to take a look at. My prescription has always been accurate and when it has changed, I have had virtually no adjustment period. I would have no hesitation in recommending Dr. Joyce.

I've been going to Dr Joyce for a few years. Never a issue. Good local optometrist. They are really good at scheduling appointments for my husband and I right next to each other so it's all in 1 visit. I have never had any issues. For those complaining they can't walk in without a appointment, what Drs office can you?

This place is a joke. I used to like seeing Dr. Joyce back in the day but he might be retiring and left his office (circus) to a comical staff. My wife and I showed up for our appointment on time, half an hour of waiting later, my wife asked to see if the new doctor will see us. The receptionist rolled her eyes and said she will be right out. Another 10 minutes later, we decided to leave. There is like five receptionists sitting around (with one doctor, interesting proportion), nobody bothered coming to us saying doctor will be late. Do not waste your time here. Drive to Napa, there will be so much better eye centers you will be treated professionally with respect.

Reviews are clearly hit or miss. I had a great experience with the optometrist and a very poor experience with the front desk staff. I called in to get my prescription and said I didn't need a fitting. When I arrived and was the only person there, the front desk person had my glasses sitting right next to her, and she made a point of ignoring me, disappearing in back, walking around 'adjusting' things, and somehow managed to waste 15 minutes of my time in a very weird and very sad power move. I would've been annoyed, but it was actually somewhat comical. I think the other people who work there know who this person is. It's a bummer when this happens to small businesses.

I took my 7 year old daughter here today for an eye exam. I was not pleased with Dr. Joyce. I do not recommend this place for children. Joyce did not manage interacting with or and examing my child well at all. He was confused by my daughter’s astigmatism and tried to tell me my daughter’s vision was much worse than it is. When he finally figured it out he did a quick, hasty exam and recommend glasses. From our interaction, I didn’t really trust his opinion. He was also very rude, I mentioned I had LASIK and he made some snarky remark about how people confuse lasix with LASIK... No, Doctor furosemide did not fix my vision. Needless to say I left with his assessment of my daughter’s prescription and I’ll be getting a second opinion.
