I went to Eyes on Lincoln before Shopko Optical and after PearleVision didn’t take my insurance anymore. When walking in to Eyes on Lincoln I immediately felt out of place. It was a bit of a Twilight Zone feeling, I just got out of my friend’s 2022 car and entered the early 70’s mid 80’s? Spooky. The doctor did the ordinary procedures, but paled in comparison to how extensively comprehensive PearleVision was. He told me he would help me see better and I turned over two pairs of high end designer glasses with the top of the line premium lenses in them. I gave them a pair of Goliath Ultra 2s (as seen worn by Robert Deniro in Goodfellas and Casino, Eliot Gould in Ocean’s 11, by Daryl from Run DMC, Snoop Dogg, Tyler Perry, The Weeknd, Michael Caine (Alfred the butler in the Dark Night Rises trilogy) and I had paid an abundance of money to have anti-glare, anti-scratch, anti-finger print and smudge and water repelling coatings put on and they were transition lenses. They did not return them to me, now I have an iconic pair of frames, that now, getting to the point, make me see worse when they are on rather than when I don’t where them at all. So, to get to the heart of the review, I looked for a different eye doctor and lens specialist and found one in Shopko Optical, which is wonderful, because they are about a ten minute walk from where I live. I was able to schedule fast. I thought I had scheduled the next day, Monday at 10:30 am, while online Sunday night, but in fact had scheduled for Tuesday, but they were more than willing to accommodate and see me at 11:00 which ended up being more like 10:45. As I waited, the friendly, professional, up front ladies were showing me the lenses that were available for me. Then “Dr. Banjo”, so dubbed, as he keeps and banjo in his office and will even play you a song and sing for you at your request. Dr. Banjo played a little song he calls “Old Joe” and sang for me. This kind of extra perk really puts providers in a whole different realm for me, above the others, that is, if they are good at the rest of what they do too! Dr. Banjo (I wish I would have caught his given name) was in fact, the best at what he does. At least the best I have ever found. He was patient with me, as I tend to be high strung, and have a lot to say and throw it all at the providers fast. Dr. Banjo calmly listened to me, picking out the pertinent details of what I had to tell him relating to what could possibly affect my eye health. He was great at paraphrasing back to me what I said, to show he understood me, along with showing empathy and unconditional positive regard towards me throughout the entire exam. His exam was even WAAAAY more comprehensive than PearleVision’s even was. By the time Dr. Banjo was done assessing me, he had assembled an interesting little set of lenses for me to look through and everything was CLEAR! Everything was SHARP!! I was seeing in the highest definition I had in I couldn’t even tell you. So it appeared as though, Dr. Banjo had found my magic number, albeit slight. Dr. Banjo dilated my eyes so he could take a look into them, and while he let the medicine set and take effect, I met with the very knowledgeable and helpful front staff, who helped me to pick out lenses for my before mentioned Goliath Ultra 2s, and a pair of Persol’s that you may have seen if you’ve watched Penguin on HBO, as they are the frames Carmine Falcone wore, I just got red tortoise shell colored instead of black. They were very patient with my as I had to run back home a couple of times. Dr. Banjo also kept conversation going while examining the images of my eye, he even knew my 3rd cousin that was a well respected eye doctor, until he retired. I highly recommend Shopko Optical for a very advanced and comprehensive eye exam by Dr. Banjo and experienced, friendly and helpful front end staff to help guide you through picking out frames and lenses, as well as making sure the pupillary distance will be correct and helping make sure your glasses fit and are comfortable.
