I have been going to Shopko Optical's Altoona location for a couple years now, and have only ever had great experiences. I see Dr. Brittany Konwinski. She is super personable. I just ordered a new pair of glasses and was having some issues with the frames (we think the lenses were too big). I brought them back and Kate was very helpful in ordering a new pair of frames. When those had the same issue, she helped me order my old pair of frames/a replacement pair of glasses. Service is always super quick and the staff is always friendly. I highly recommend!

Our whole family switched to Shopko Altoona and we have had nothing short of wonderful service. Dr. Konwinski and Mick did a great job. Special shout out to Mick who set me up in my new glasses. The moment I put them on they fit and felt perfect, no adjusting needed. This has been a problem in the past and have even had to have glasses sent back due to not being able to adjust to a new prescription. Not this time!
As someone who has been a patient at Shopko Optical for nearly 10 years (back when it was the singular location inside the Shopko plaza in Eau Claire), I am so disappointed with the lack of care and customer service I dealt with this week, so much so that I am considering relocating my care elsewhere permanently. After being extremely overdue for a much-needed eye exam and already having rescheduled the initial appointment due to an unexpected familial obligation, I was finally set to be seen for an “in-person” exam (as opposed to the virtual exams they seem to primarily offer now) this past Tuesday the 19th at the Clairemont location. The lack of in-person appointments versus virtual ones was frustrating to me during my initial scheduling, but ultimately something I was willing to overlook and wait for in order to see someone face to face, as opposed to virtually. However, the night before my appointment, I logged into my account to double check my appointment time for the next day, only to find that it had been inexplicably cancelled with no notice or explanation via text, email, voicemail or otherwise. Frustrated by this, but knowing I needed to be seen sooner rather than later due to me currently being 38 weeks pregnant and unsure of when I’ll have the opportunity to make it in next, I scheduled myself for the next available virtual appointment on the 20th at the Altoona location since in-person appointments at all local locations are scheduling out weeks in advance. Today, I finally show up for my virtual appointment after this whole saga, only to find out that my insurance does not cover virtual appointments and that it would be nearly $100 out of pocket to be seen (a fact I don’t personally blame them for, but is extremely frustrating given the circumstances). The employee could not give me an explanation for why my in-person appointment the previous day had been cancelled and offered me the next available in-person slot on June 1st— a date I could not commit to, as it’s the day after my due date. When asked if I could at least be provided with a trial/sample pair of contacts to get me by until I could come back in and be seen, I was told that they could not provide me with any unless I were to have an exam set up and on the calendar. While I can understand the reasoning behind this policy, postpartum life with a newborn is chaotic and unpredictable and it’s difficult for me to know exactly when I’ll be able to make it back in again, never mind the fact that I had no control over my appointment being cancelled in the first place. In addition, I would have hoped the fact that I have been a long time patient/customer would have been taken into consideration that I wasn’t going to just take the sample pair contacts and never return again, but unfortunately I wasn’t extended that grace. This whole experience has been so frustrating and has only added to an already stressful time in my life, I truly don’t think I can bring myself to ever go back.
Mick was incredible. At the end of my husband’s workday the bow fell off of his glasses. Considering the late time of day, I was doubtful that anyone would have time to repair his glasses. But Mick was so kind and accommodating—and did a great job fixing my husband‘s glasses! It only took a few minutes, as well. Very surprised that we weren’t even charged for the repair. Wow. Thank you, Mick and Shopko Optical. You’re the best!
I seen Dr Konwinski today for the first time, and she was so lovely! She took her time and explained everything and didn’t make you feel rushed at all, very personable. Definitely would recommend her!
