I had a frustrating experience with pricing transparency at Simon Eye. When I called to schedule, I specifically asked for the cost of an eye exam including copies of both my glasses and contact lens prescriptions. I was told the exam would be $119. I also chose the $39 Optomap, bringing the expected total to $158—which I confirmed again at check-in before being brought back. After the exam, I was unexpectedly told I had to pay an additional $60 for a “contact lens evaluation” just to receive my contact prescription. This was never disclosed upfront, despite me clearly stating my needs in advance. When I asked why there was an extra charge, the front desk told me it was because I asked for a copy of my contact lens prescription and that “everywhere charges for it.” That has not been my experience—my previous optometrist never charged me just to provide copies of my prescriptions. To be fair, I don’t mind paying the extra $60—I just wish they had been transparent about it from the beginning so I could make an informed decision. What made it worse is that the charge was essentially slipped into paperwork to sign without any explanation. I didn’t catch it at the time, and now it becomes a “you signed for it” situation. I didn’t want to waste time arguing, so I paid and left—but that’s not how fees should be communicated. Also, there was no meaningful contact lens evaluation performed—no corneal curvature measurements, no tear film assessment, and no fitting or trial lenses. I’ve worn contacts for years, and the only change made was a minor prescription adjustment (-0.75). Overall, this felt like typical corporate behavior—adding charges wherever possible instead of being upfront. I’d recommend confirming all fees very carefully before your visit, especially if you need a contact lens prescription.

Make sure they take your insurance when you check in, because they will not tell you. When I checked in, they asked for my license and insurance - normal procedure for medical appointments. Not a word said about not accepting my insurance. After the whole visit, when I'm expecting to provide my co-pay I find out that I have to pay the full amount out of pocket. Had I known they didn't take my insurance, I would have gone elsewhere, but I suppose that's why they didn't tell me. The only reason they get three stars is because the staff conducting the exams were professional and pleasant. It's terrible practice to hide important information from a client until it's too late for them to make any adjustments - borderline scam behavior.
Ordered 2 pair of glasses on Nov 13 and told 10-14 days to receive. When I didn’t hear anything at 19 days I went to location only to find out one pair was there and other pair the frame was misplaced . I took the pair of aunglasses and was told the 2nd pair would be put on a rush . Still on the 22 Ned December no updated to called again . Only to find still not in but supposedly in mail to them and would be another 3-4 days to receive. Let’s see if that is true ! The customer service is not even the one star rating. No follow up when they don’t receive glasses when promised . I have never in over 30 years of buying glasses have waited this long to be delivered . I do not recommend using this store ! Update ! So after posting review I get a call about 45 min later that my glasses are in and they stated they texted me at 1030 am. Ok I call at 1 pm and told they are in mail but at 1039 where in store - lies and more lies As stated O rating due to lies and little to no customer service Stay away from the Newark store if you don’t want to lied too
The staff members are friendly, courteous and professional. Waiting time is minimal. Optometrists are also professional, and compassionate. This was my first visit. I felt at ease and not rushed.
Although they checked my eyes and came out 20/20 they still charged me $40.00 for glasses prescription that l do not need. I have Medicare and united health and never paid a penny for any eye exam. She, “ the Dr.” Pushed on me unnecessary exam for personal gain.
