On July 28, 2026 I had cataract surgery on my left eye at St John's Surgical Center. In the pre-op area there were multiple patients being prepared for surgery, I was one of them. There were multiple nurses handling the patients. One of those nurses that was taking care of me decided to do a side hand like karate chop on my hair bun stating it was too high, but rather than asking me to adjust it she kept karate chopping at my head and hair bun. Because of this, I needed to re-adjust my hair bun anyways because it was now falling out. Two other nurses a while later came to prepare me for surgery, one stood on my left, the other on my right. I'm not sure if the nurse on my right side was the same one that was karate chopping my hair bun or not. The one on my right told me to move over to the left more. Because I have a bad back, I had to grab a hold of the left bed rail for leverage in order to be able to scoot to the left as she requested. When I did so she laid over the top of me and pushed me back on the bed and told me to lie down. I told her because my bad back I needed to leverage myself in order to scoot over as she had instructed, but no matter what, she kept shoving me back down to the bed telling me that there is a process that they do in order. She then started tucking me in like a child. I understand why they do it, but I'm claustrophobic. So when I am constricted, I have a tendency to have to scratch sometimes. When I had to reach and scratch my lower left leg, she shoved me down on the bed again and raised her voice at me treating me like a child. I told her that being constricted is hard because I'm claustrophobic, but no matter what I said she had a very bad attitude with me. I tried to explain to her that being constricted was a problem for me. She raised her voice and said you're not constricted! I tried to explain to her how it felt to me and then she roughly grabbed the blanket at my left shoulder catching my shirt with it and jerked it back across my chest. A couple minutes later they came and gave me something through the IV needle in my right wrist to relax me before surgery. It didn't take long and I started feeling it kick in, after that I remember nothing. Rather than treating me the way she did, she could have worked with me a little bit and waited to tuck me in after the medicine kicked in, but instead she felt the need to mistreat me. I understand that there's a certain process to doing things, but tucking me in didn't have to be done right that second. She could have waited until the sedation time or after the medicine kicked in that they gave me to relax me. I am due to have my right eye done on August 18th and I'm worried about being mistreated again by these nurses. This is causing me bad anxiety now.

I went there for cataract surgery and stigmatism correction. They open at 8:00 a.m. when I entered I filled out a peice of paper and was taken back to the surgery prep room. When I arrived they put numbing drops in my eyes and started an IV. I was covered with a blanket and soon they told me I was done. Easy, Peasy....quick and painless!!! Dr. Lewis does really good work!
I have lived in Florida for about 8 years. I have been in and out of different appointments and different procedures. I have never been treated with such respect and care in that hole eight years that I have at St John's surgery when I had my surgery. Fantastic job you all. Keep up the great work.
I cant express enough of all the good treatment I received getting eyelid surgery. The whole stuff was so informative and kind ,they answered all my questions with a warm voice .from the beginning I was made comfortable. The anesthesiologist came in was very nice explained everything she was going to do then Dr Lewis came in he talked to me very nice explained everything he was going to do everybody was just so nice and explained everything right to the point I was very very pleased.
