The location is great. The office is clean. The lobby has fun artwork. They can generate a vision prescription and sell you glasses and contacts. I think they would prefer to pluck your eyeballs out of your head and only treat those, and the fact that eyeballs are attached to a brain that does unexpected things with visual information and and brains come with emotions is very inconvenient to the detached efficiency of operations. A few years ago, I would've said that the practitioners were very robotic, but now that robots are capable of running scripts with empathy and curiosity, this is an unfair comparison to Chatbots. I've been here twice. Several years ago I left my visit disappointed and embarrassed. Dr. Love, as the website suggests, has experience with pediatrics and vision disorders. As a child, I had a eye surgery and vision disorder that still affects me as an adult in ways that are ignored by conventional practices and difficult to diagnose. I was hoping for an expanded perspective on how I experience my vision and the struggles that I'm facing on a daily basis. My expectations were sadly not met. I was not given any referrals that might help me. They just confirmed that the glasses prescription from another optometrist was accurate. This time with a new provider, I left my visit with a profound sense of disregard and shame. The pamphlet for the condition I had as a child and still impacts my visual processing today is included here for reference. This is not a relic from my youth, this is what's on offer in the exam rooms in 2026.

My husband and I have been coming to Hawthorne vision for well over 10+ years now and have had nothing but great service from Dr Alan Love and the other staff. We always purchase our frames and lenses there as well. They back up all their products and lenses with outstanding service and if something is not right they will redo/replace or just a quick adjustment or cleaning if I happen to be walking by. I want to make mention of a recent visit I had to get new frames for an updated Rx. Jane, one of the dispensing opticians did an outstanding job helping me find a great new pair of frames. She listen to what I liked and started pulling out different styles from the draws (which I would have never thought to look) she helped me narrow down to a very pretty frame and advised that most frames /lenses can add the magnets that hold a sunglass clip (which is what I was looking for). She then did some adjustments on my old glasses, checked the Rx of a pair of readers I had done on line to make sure they were correct. I’ve had great customer service in the past, but Jane stood out to me this time.

My glasses-wearing friend’s told me to save money and buy them online but I like to support local and since it was my first pair ever, I had no idea how to choose the right size/ shape etc. and wanted guidance. After spending 1200 for an exam and glasses, I went back because the glasses kept sliding down my face and I couldn’t see with them at night. They just kept bending the arms each time and they still slid down my face all day. Okay, I keep thinking it’s going to work this time. They re-check my eyes and said the script is not different enough to cause the night time vision issues. Maybe it’s a “bad batch of anti-glare”. I hear the sales person say, “Well, besides the fact that they’re filthy…” to the optometrist . Umm, I’m right here and that’s what happens when you have a labor job and you’re pushing up your annoying glasses ALL day. New lenses did absolutely nothing. I called back and asked if I could get lenses without transitions because possibly that’s why I still can’t see at night? No, can’t do that, come back in. No thanks. I live across town and was already back there 4 times. How many times do I go back?! I don’t have that kind of spare time nor any faith that anything would be solved and was way too annoyed by the whole ordeal. So I stopped wearing the overpriced glasses and went back to squinting. Finally went to a different clinic 8 months later and found out that my PD (that the tech measures with a ruler) was off by like 5mm and that’s probably why I couldn’t see at night. Spent WAY less on new glasses with a smaller bridge that actually fit my face, with the correct PD and can now see at night. TLDR; No, I don’t recommend this place

I’ve been getting my glasses through Hawthorne Vision for 30 years. I have a complicated prescription and the Dr (and folks in the glasses area) have all been thorough and patient with me. I trust Hawthorne Vision with caring for my eyes…and having good vision is very important to me. I recommend them to anyone who needs glasses.

I have been a patient here for about ten years. The docs are great. The people that staff the glasses part are absolutely the best. I routinely sit on my glasses and they have fixed them every time without complaint. Cannot recommend enough.
