I seriously cannot say enough good things about Salem Eye Professionals and the entire team there. I would give them more than five stars if I could. Dr. Huggett has been absolutely amazing in helping me take care of my vision and overall eye health. He has always taken my concerns seriously, especially when I’ve had questions related to my eyes or diabetes. There have been multiple occasions where I’ve been worried about something and he has managed to get me in at the last minute just to make sure everything is okay. That kind of care and reassurance means a lot to me. I never feel rushed or dismissed, and I genuinely feel like he cares about his patients. Josue and Tammy have also been incredible. They have spent so much time helping me find the right glasses and making sure everything is comfortable and working the way it should. They’ve helped replace my lenses when needed and have adjusted and refitted my glasses more times than I can count after I inevitably bend them at work. 😂 They are always patient, friendly, and willing to help. I also think the entire office deserves a huge amount of credit for how well they have continued to operate despite the damage and construction after a car crashed into their building. I can only imagine how stressful and disruptive that has been for everyone working there, yet every time I come in, they are still welcoming, professional, organized, and focused on giving their patients excellent care. It really says something about a practice when you feel like the people there genuinely know you and want to make sure you’re taken care of. Dr. Huggett, Josue, Tammy, and the rest of the Salem Eye Professionals team have earned my trust completely. I’m extremely grateful to have them taking care of my eyes and wouldn’t hesitate to recommend them to anyone looking for an eye doctor in Salem.

I've been going to D.r Huggett for years. I've always had a wonderful experience. Yesterday I had my eye check up, and the young lady at the front desk was so helpful and kind. She was working really hard answering calls scheduling and checking patients in. After my appointment my husband and I decided to come back to schedule his first appointment, in person, and she was so accommodating even though she had calls coming through to the front desk. I don't remember her name but she definitely deserves a raise! Dr.Huggett is also an amazing eye doc, on top of doing my vision tests I let him know that last night while I was sleeping, one of my cats went crazy and scratched my eye/ eyelid trying to jump on our headboard. He then got some dye and checked my eyeball for scratches, and told me what to look out for regarding potential infection. This is a wonderful place. I highly recommend going here.
I had my routine eye exam with Dr. Darek Huggett on June 13, 2026. During the appointment, I was informed that I needed a different contact lens prescription. Unfortunately, the office did not have trial lenses in the correct prescription, so I was given a pair that was "close" and told the correct trial lenses would arrive within one to two weeks. It has now been over a month, and I still have not received the correct lenses or any meaningful follow-up. I have called the office twice. During my first call, I was told someone would get back to me shortly with options, but I never received a return call. A week later, I called again and spoke with a gentleman. I explained that contact lenses are not intended to be worn for longer than one month and that I had already exceeded that timeframe while wearing an incorrect prescription. I also explained that I needed a resolution by the end of the day. Once again, I received no follow-up. This morning, when I attempted to put the trial contacts back in, one of the lenses had torn. I am now left without any contact lenses and will have to deal with the headaches and discomfort that result from not having the correct vision correction. I will be contacting my insurance provider to determine whether this visit has already been billed. If it has, I intend to explain the circumstances, as I do not believe the services were completed or appropriately followed through. I will also discuss my options for obtaining coverage for an eye exam with a different optometrist. Based on this experience, I cannot recommend Dr. Darek Huggett's office. The lack of communication, follow-up, and resolution over the past month has been extremely disappointing, and I expected a much higher standard of patient care.
I'm sad to even have to write such a poor review on this office. I've been seeing Dr. Huggett for many years and he is always wonderful. My husband went in for his eye exams and has his usual testing done. Paid all of the fees and co-pays at the time of his appointment. We were not told that one of the tests was not covered by our insurance. We never received a bill. We never received a phone call about the unpaid balance. My husband was notified a day before his next appointment that he could not be seen until his bill was paid. He told them he wasn't aware there was a bill and that he would talk to me about it that evening about paying it so he could keep his appointment. He was then told that it was too late for that because it had already gone to collections. He asked how it could have possibly gone to collections when we were never notified about an outstanding bill. They were sending the bill to the wrong address. They never tried to reach either of us by phone. I have been seeing Dr. Huggett and my address is correct on file because I get my contacts delivered. They told my husband once the collection was paid off they could schedule his next appointment but once he called to let the office know it was paid he was told he was dropped for not paying his bill and it going to collections. They said it was a new rule. My husband then told them that I have been goin there for years and Dr. Huggett is very familiar with his unique circumstances that are being monitored closely. They then told my husband they would be looking into dropping me as a patient as well. I have never missed an appointment or been late and have always paid my bill in full same day. Sad to say I am choosing to leave for a new clinic. This is not how you treat loyal patients.
Great doctor, very thorough. But that is where the good ends. Staff is unhelpful and made many mistakes so I came back four times for my glasses.
