“I’m 50 years old. I see distance clearly and don’t need glasses for driving or TV. I only have trouble up close. Over-the-counter +2.00 readers let me see my phone and computer perfectly. The prescription I was given looked like bifocal i asked them to change it to regular reading they did they said but not true it looks like a distance prescription, and that doesn’t match my vision. I asked to be rechecked rechecked and get a near/reading or computer prescription, not distance glasses.i told them”“I believe this prescription may be over-plussed for distance. I don’t have distance blur, only near.” Noe think about it At 50, with good distance vision and needing +2.00 readers, that points to: Presbyopia (near focus loss) Now what is Not true distance hyperopia needing +2.00 all the time So im not being difficult — im describing a common situation. they say, “This is what the exam showed”, i replied: “I understand, but in daily life my distance is clear and I don’t function with +2.00 for distance. I only need help up close. I’m not comfortable wearing these they are making things worse an too strong.” that prescription is written for distance (everyday wear), not for reading. The +2.00 / +1.75 sphere with astigmatism correction and no ADD on it means: It’s meant to be worn for driving, TV, walking around, etc. It is not a reading or near-only prescription. If it were for near at my age (50), it would usually show: ADD +1.75 to +2.25, or Be clearly labeled “Near” / “Reading Rx.” Mines isn’t. What they’re proposing now sadly is a (+3.00 to +3.25) would be a stronger near/reading-only prescription, which is often what someone around 50 ends up with if they want very clear close vision. What this means for me +3.00 / +3.25 = near-only readers, not distance. These would be for: Phone very close Small print Not for walking around or computer at arm’s length. I told then: +2.00 OTC readers already work well, jumping to +3.00+ will feel too strong an have serious side affects again unless im seriously hold things very close. They dont understand....an I really dont want to pay for a 3rd pair if yet again this happens...it be nice if they actually listened....
