I visited this office for an eye exam after suffering eye injuries about six months ago. I want to start by saying the front desk staff were absolutely wonderful. They were kind, welcoming, and professional throughout the entire visit. They made a great first impression, and I would happily return based on their customer service alone. Unfortunately, my experience with the ophthalmologist was the complete opposite. Although he was friendly and upbeat throughout the appointment, I ultimately left feeling that my concerns weren’t being heard. I had LASIK several years ago and suffered injuries to both eyes about six months ago. Since then, the only lasting issue I’ve experienced is increased sensitivity to bright sunlight. My vision is still excellent, and I do not have eye pain. Throughout my appointment, however, the doctor repeatedly told me that LASIK had “messed up” my eyes and repeatedly referred to me as having eye pain, despite me telling him multiple times that I do not experience eye pain. It genuinely felt as though he was trying to convince me I was experiencing symptoms that I wasn’t. He also repeatedly attributed my light sensitivity to my “light skin and light-colored eyes” and my previous LASIK surgery. While I understand those can be contributing factors, the point was made so many times that it became excessive and didn’t feel productive. After the exam, I was given a very mild prescription for glasses, and the conversation shifted heavily toward getting them. I felt like I was being pressured into believing glasses would significantly improve my quality of life, even though I repeatedly explained that I’m happy with my vision. Eventually, I said, “It would take a catastrophic event for me to wear glasses again,” because I felt the conversation wasn’t moving on. After that, the appointment became much more routine. After my appointment was done, I did ask that the sensitivity to bright light be added in the notes on my file for documentation for the eye injury and it was documented. So I do absolutely appreciate that! My wife had an appointment immediately after mine, and during her visit the doctor spent time discussing his personal finances and multiple sources of income. It wasn’t the focus of the appointment, but I couldn’t understand why it was relevant. While I’m glad he’s been successful, it didn’t feel appropriate or professional during a medical visit. One final concern involved retinal imaging. Because both my wife and I have family histories of eye disease, we chose to have the imaging done. We understood it would cost about $34 if insurance didn’t cover it, which wasn’t a problem. However, when the front desk asked whether they should submit it to our insurance, the doctor—speaking loudly enough for us to hear—told them not to even try because our insurance “would never cover it.” We have excellent insurance and have never had a medical claim denied, so it was disappointing that he instructed the staff not to submit the claim before giving our insurance the opportunity to process it. Overall, I left feeling unheard and frustrated. The front desk staff provided exceptional service and deserve recognition, but my interaction with the ophthalmologist left such a negative impression that I won’t be returning.

By far the best optometrist in the Treasure Valley. If you live in Caldwell it is worth the drive. I have never been taken care of as wonderfully and kindly than I have at this office; from the minute you walk in to the minute you leave you will be heard and seen. ♥️

After going to another eye doctor for help with my dry eyes, I switched to Dr. Schilling. Completely different positive experience and I could not recommend him more. First off, I didn't have to wait 30 - 45 minutes from my appointment time to see him (The Eye Associates - that is the standard wait time from your appointment). In fact, I didn't have to wait at all. After spending thousands (literally) of dollars with The Eye Associates, Dr. Schilling diagnosed my dry eye as ocular rosacea and after a couple of prescriptions I immediately started feeling better. The Eye Associates also said I didn't need glasses despite me insisting that I could not read well. Again, Dr. Schilling did a very thorough exam and prescribed me with glasses (albeit not a strong prescription, but yes I do need them) 10 out of 10 experience with Barber Town Eye Care.

Love everyone at Barber Town! I have gone there since I moved to Harris Ranch almost 7 years ago! The doctors and staff are great. Dr. Schilling is super thorough and really kind. The selection of glasses is amazing. On trend, stylish and affordable! The best place for glasses and eye care!
