Can an optician give me an eye exam?

No. Opticians fit and dispense eyewear against a prescription written by an optometrist or ophthalmologist. Many of the locations listed here have both an optician and an eye doctor on site.

Can I take my prescription to any optician?

Yes. Under the FTC Eyeglass Rule your prescriber must give you a copy of your glasses prescription at no extra charge, and you are free to fill it anywhere. The Contact Lens Rule gives you the same right for contact lens prescriptions.

Do opticians adjust glasses bought elsewhere?
